Steve Wilks will not interview for Colts HC job

Steve Wilks will not interview for Colts HC job”

After the team interviewed Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Steve Wilks Wednesday, Wilks was scheduled to then interview for the Indianapolis Colts' vacant coaching job on Thursday.

Interviews with Wilks and Studesville would satisfy the league's Rooney Rule, which requires teams to speak with at least one minority hiring during their search.

Indianapolis has interviewed Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, former Seahawks defensive coordinator Kris Richard, Texans defensive coordinator Mike Vrabel, Baylor head coach Matt Rhule and former Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy, according to Zak Keefer of the Indianapolis Star. Wilks is considered one of the favorites for the Giants' opening, and has also interviewed in Arizona.

Wilks has close ties to Gettleman, who was Carolina's general manager until being fired before the start of this past season.

This marked the first time Tisch took part in the interview process, which might indicate an added level of interest on the part of the Giants.

Wilks also coached the San Diego Chargers secondary from 2009-11 and the Chicago Bears defensive backs from 2006-08.

But their defensive coordinator post could be in flux, as well. Just his whole personality.

Wilks was promoted in Carolina after Sean McDermott became Buffalo's coach previous year.

If Steve Wilks is their guy, the Giants might have a head coach in place by the end of the week.
