Surgeon fined £10000 for branding patients' livers

Surgeon fined £10000 for branding patients' livers”

Bramhall was ordered to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work.

A surgeon who burnt his initials into a patient's newly transplanted liver has avoided jail despite the freaky "abuse of power" at a United Kingdom hospital.

During Bramhall's sentencing, more than 20 former patients of the liver surgeon were in court to support him.

The judge accepted that the patients were not physically harmed, but said one had suffered "extreme and enduring" psychological stress after learning what had happened.

The operations were carried out in 2013 at Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

"It was Mr Bramhall who gave me my first instincts of hope", Barbara Moss explained. What was Simon Bramhall thinking of? I think it should have been thrown out.

"Because of my ordeal, my trust in doctors has been destroyed".

The woman, who said she didn't even like the ideas of tattoos on skin, told the court: "The horror of seeing the photo of my cut open body with the initials SB on the liver will forever live in my mind".

"I personally hate the thought of tattoos anyway, and the thought of someone doing this to me while I was unconscious is abhorrent". The surgeon used an argon beam machine to "write" his initials on the livers of the patients after transplants in February and August 2013.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said Bramhall marked his initials on the patients" livers without their consent "for no clinical reason' using a medical instrument created to seal bleeding blood vessels.

Patient A's liver failed about a week after his transplant and another surgeon discovered the initialing, which was not related to the failing.

Cell phone pictures were taken of the branding, and Bramhall later admitted to the act.

The liver was salvaged from the plane and Bramhall successfully transplanted the liver into the patient and saved the patients life.

He used an argon beam machine, an instrument created to seal bleeding blood vessels, to sear his initials "SB" into their livers.

Bramhall hid his face as he walked into court ahead of an earlier hearing.

Bramhall's actions came to light when one of the patients had further surgery a week later. "He also said that in hindsight this was naive and foolhardy - a misjudged attempt to relieve the tension in theatre", Mr Badenoch said.

Jeremy Clarkson Why can't we win in our war films the way the Yanks do?

'The pleas of guilty now entered represent an acceptance that that which he did was not just ethically wrong but criminally wrong'.

The surgeon pleaded not guilty to alternative charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. Bramhall resigned from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, central England, in 2014.
