Towns' near triple-double pushes Wolves past Knicks, 118-108

Towns' near triple-double pushes Wolves past Knicks, 118-108”

The Knicks travel to Minnesota to take on the absurdly overworked Timberwolves (Thibs has got to get a new shtick - this whole "play everyone a gazillion minutes during the regular season" one has grown, quite literally, tiring) in a battle of the "Guy from the 2015 Draft that you want in November" vs. "Guy from the 2015 Draft that you want in every other month".

Karl-Anthony Towns finished an assist shy of a triple-double for Minnesota.

. Andrew Wiggins finished with 16 points, six rebounds and two steals. Prior to getting hurt, he was averaging a career-high 17.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 2.3 threes and 1.1 steals across 34.1 minutes per game.

Teague complemented his 12 points with eight assists, four rebounds and four steals. NY hit 60.5 percent from the field in the opening 24 minutes and led by as many as eight points. Kristaps Porzingis had 17 points and 10 rebounds. The Knicks had seven players score in double figures including point guard Jarrett Jack, who scored 18.

Tim Hardaway Jr., returning from a stress fracture in his leg, chipped in with 16 points, while Kristaps Porzingis had 17, Enes Kanter 16, Courtney Lee 14, Michael Beasley 13 and Kyle O'Quinn 12 for NY.

But a succession of defensive lapses allowed the Knicks to reel off a 12-5 run to pull within a point with 3:18 left.

The Wolves move to 28-16, fourth in the West and a half-game behind the Spurs for third.

Kanter (12 rebounds) and Porzingis (10) recorded double-doubles for the Knicks.

With five seconds left in the second quarter, Towns hit Butler with an over-the-head pass which gave Butler an easy layup.

Timberwolves: Minnesota had its sixth straight sellout, the longest streak for the franchise since it sold out 48 straight games from 1990-92. The Wolves' perimeter defense was just a step slow in this one, and the Knicks made them pay, which allowed them to hang around until the very end of the game.

Still, the Knicks shot 13-for-19 in the quarter, with the Wolves staying close thanks to the Wolves scoring seven points on three Knicks turnovers in the quarter.

The win marked Minnesota's seventh-straight home win. His teammates were trying to get him a triple double but on the Wolves' final possession Jeff Teague missed a jumper that would have been Towns' 10th assist.

Twenty five minutes of Tim Hardaway Jr. wasn't enough to lift the Knicks out of their road doldrums. His double-double was his 36th of the season.
