Fortnite Surpasses 40 Million Downloads Across All Platforms

Fortnite Surpasses 40 Million Downloads Across All Platforms”

The latest update arrives as Fortnite: Battle Royale reaches the 45 million players milestone, with the past weekend seeing 2 million concurrent players all enjoying the competitive shenanigans. With even more to explore, the inside look at the updates coming to the map look fresh and are the flawless way to keep gameplay interesting!

However, Epic Games didn't make it it clear how many of those downloads are for the paid Save The World version of Fortnite, which sees players teaming up with other survivors to fight against the undead, or how many are for its free Battle Royale mode. There's also a second celebratory video marking one-hundred days since the free-to-play Battle Royale launched for Fortnite.

Speaking to Glixel, Eric Williamson, lead systems designer for Battle Royale, stated, "Since we launched Battle Royale at the end of September a year ago, to hear people say we're basically one of the biggest, if not the biggest Battle Royale games in the western world in terms of numbers of player is incredible".

Epic has bold ambitions for the game, too, with Williams saying that the game might be the biggest battle royale game in the Western world.

Some of the new additions include high rise buildings, underground mines and existing areas receiving a noticeable upgrade. This also means that players expecting new maps immediately might get disappointed since they are not the priority for the developers.

These changes are fuelled by the implementation of level streaming, which is big news not just for Fortnite but for Epic's Unreal Engine in general. "Level streaming is technology which uncaps us to be able to increase the variety and quality of the localised area you're in at any given time".
