United Kingdom should rejoin EU after Brexit: EU Commission chief”

European Union chief Donald Tusk is urging Britain to change its mind about leaving the bloc next year and says the EU would welcome the country back.

Speaking at the European Parliament in Strasbourg Mr Juncker said he was reluctant to see the United Kingdom go and left the door open for Britain to return after 29 March 2019 under Article 49 of the Lisbon Treaty.

When is Shrove Tuesday and why is it called Shrove Tuesday?

"But I think what this boils down to is something that Mr Farage said last week when he was on a Channel 5 chat show, I think Matthew Wright, and suggested that he was starting to come round to the idea of a second Brexit referendum and that's sort of like clickbait to most people".

"Once the British have left under Article 50 there is still Article 49 which allows a return to membership and I would like that", he told MEPs.

Juncker's comment about possible re-accession comes a day after European Council President Donald Tusk said that the bloc's "hearts were still open" if Britain chose to change its mind about leaving the EU. While EU judges would have to be consulted, according to the study, Juncker said on Wednesday that Britons should be allowed to stay, while Tusk said on Tuesday that EU's hearts are "still open".

"Mr. Tusk and I once again reached out to the British government yesterday and said that if the British people, the British parliament, the British government, wish for another way than Brexit, we would be prepared to discuss it".

Among those who have spoken of a willingness to help Britain stay or to rejoin have been French President Emmanuel Macron.

"Wasn't it David Davis himself who said if a democracy can not change its mind it ceases to be a democracy?"

According to a report, prepared by Migration Watch UK, the number of European Union nationals arriving during the two-year post-Brexit transition period could amount to one million.

"Unless there is a change of heart amongst our British friends".

Speaking on behalf of the Open Britain campaign for close ties with the EU, Umuna said: 'Brexit is going to be far more costly and complicated than we were led to believe.

A draft document leaked from Brussels earlier this week showed that European Union negotiators will make the demand in the next phase of talks about the UK's departure from the bloc. And if they want to, they should be able to.
