'Janta curfew' in halls if 'Padmaavat' is screened: Karni Sena

'Janta curfew' in halls if 'Padmaavat' is screened: Karni Sena”

The film was originally set to be release on 1 December past year, but the violent protests by militant Hindutva outfit Karni Sena and death threats issued by BJP leaders forced the makers of the film to postpone its release. "Both Karni Sena and the erstwhile rulers of Mewar become party to the state government's petition", said Kataria.

"Once the film is released, the outburst of people will be enormous and cinema halls will be responsible for the cost".

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court rejected the plea by Rajasthan and MP governments seeking a recall of its earlier order on the grounds of law and order.

Rajput Karni Sena Spokesperson Vijendra Singh said that the body will approach cinema hall owners across India in the next three days to request them not to screen the Sanjay Leela Bhansali movie.

The Haryana government said that it would implement the Supreme Court order that allows the screening of the movie. It stars Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmavati, Shahid Kapoor as Maharawal Ratan Singh and Ranveer Singh as Alauddin Khilji. CSP Jayant Rathore said "No permission was taken for the protest and we will take action against the agitators if we get any compliant in the incident". They also gathered on the Narsinghpur stretch of the expressway and blocked the traffic for some time. "If any theatre screens the film, there will be aggressive protests".

Another lady officer present in the scene said there was nothing to worry as all that was done was for media attention as the girls can be seen clicking selfies and videos on Facebook.

Asked about the protests against the movie in various states by Karni Sena members, Kalvi said, "These are not communal".

Chief minister Yogi Adityanath's office and senior officials of the state's home department weren't available for comment on the issue of threats to cinema hall owners. The movie, which was earlier titled 'Padmavati', will now be released worldwide on 25 January with the new title suggested by the censor board.

Not only theatres, the Rajput Karni Sena even vandalised a school in Ratlam district of Madhya Pradesh for performing the dance number "Ghoomar". The apex court had also restrained other states from issuing any such notification or orders banning the screening of the movie. Find us on Facebook too!
