Hotel That Banned Influencers Has Released #Bloggergate-Inspired Merch

Hotel That Banned Influencers Has Released #Bloggergate-Inspired Merch”

YouTuber Elle Darby has been at the centre of quite the social media shitstorm lately, after a Dublin hotel publicly called her out for asking for a free five-night stay. The business offer may have been tone-deaf on her part, but it enraged White Moose Café and Charleville Lodge owner Paul Stenson, who turned it into a symbol of millennial entitlement and posted it on Facebook.

With that said, though, plenty of hotels invite celebrities and people with large social media followings to stay in establishments for free in exchange for publicity; it tends to cost less than a traditional ad campaign and reach more viewers, resulting in more business and therefore more money to pay said bills, at least in theory. She did not comment on an invoice that was posted on the hotel's social media page, charging her more than €5 million for the publicity she generated. "This is not true in any way, shape or form".

"At about 10 o'clock on Tuesday morning a post was uploaded to Facebook, which included a screenshot of my email".

Darby goes on to allege that her name was not properly hidden when her email was posted onto the hotel's Facebook group, and she claims that by turning up the brightness on their screens people could easily see her name, which is when, she says, abuse started.

"I'm very sorry if I've offended anyone".

"From what I can think - assume, I don't even know - [it] was supposed to be a bit of a joke from the other person involved in the situation", she continued, adding: "This hasn't been fair".

Now, in a video titled "My side of the story/moving on", Darby has spoken out about what she describes as an "unfair situation".

"The amount of abusive messages I have received; I don't know what to say about this because I've never ever had what I've had over the last few days in my life and to be continuous - it's just been really overwhelming".

She said trolls started sending her death threats and messages wishing for her children to get cancer and that she was called "every name under the sun, words I didn't even know existed".

Darby also revealed that she had been to her GP to discuss the anxiety provoked by the recent fiasco.

"I've been called nearly every name under the sun - words I didn't even know existed".

Elle added that more needs to be done about social media bullying, highlighting her own case.
