Sessions: Aim is erasing political bias in agency

Sessions: Aim is erasing political bias in agency”

The Department of Justice does not always know what's best, and it is not flawless.

Mr. Sessions said "the vast majority" of employees at Justice, which includes the Federal Bureau of Investigation, are dedicated and patriotic Americans who do quality work. It doesn't favor education or skills.

Sessions added that other countries use a merit-based system for immigration and that it would help boost America's economy and make it safer.

Sessions repeated Trump's call for ending the system of allowing naturalized US citizens to bring their relatives into the country, which critics call "chain migration", and for ending the "diversity lottery" for green cards.

"If anyone falls short of these high standards", he said, "we will not hesitate to take appropriate action - and we will do so in accordance with the rules and procedures of the Department". "As a result, eight people were killed".

"This will make it harder, much harder and far more expensive for illegal aliens to break our laws, smuggle drugs or even human beings into the country", he said to the crowd of about 50 people.

"A culture of defensiveness is not acceptable", Sessions said.

Sessions cited a study that, he said, found undocumented immigrants in Arizona are more than twice as likely to be convicted of crimes as "normal, regular Arizonans". He also said it allows terrorists into the country. "He planned on following him there later himself". "And we're not going - and can not - continue giving federal grants to cities that actively undermine the safety of federal law officers and intentionally frustrate our efforts to reduce crime in America".

Sanctuary jurisdictions generally don't release undocumented immigrants when they would otherwise be held for crimes.

"My objective every day is to get the department back to its fundamental mission of enforcing the law and protecting the safety of Americans with integrity and fairness", he said at the end of a speech about President Donald Trump administration's immigration crackdown.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions said Friday that his Justice Department may be fair game as a target of criticism from Republicans complaining of anti-Trump bias in the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

But, Fresco said, when enforcement of the law has a "compassionate result", such as family migration and the diversity lottery, Sessions says that "it must be changed".
