Apple loses showrunner for its first original series over production differences”

The trend of Bryan Fuller leaving high-profile projects continued today, as he has reportedly exited Apple's relaunch of the classic anthology TV series Amazing Stories. Starz CEO Chris Albrecht told reporters this month that the duo will still be involved, though sources stress both Fuller and Green will have no role at all on season two. The outlet notes that Fuller wanted to take the new series in a Black Mirror-like direction, meaning more adult, while Apple wanted to keep the show as a family-friendly series. The tech giant made a 10-episode straight-to-series deal for a remake of the cult Spielberg-produced anthology series, which aired from 1985-1987 on NBC, late a year ago.

This is not the first time that Fuller has departed with one of his television shows due to creative differences. Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey of Steven Spielberg's Amblin Television serve as executive producers. Prior to that, Fuller was set as the showrunner on the CBS All Access series "Star Trek: Discovery" before stepping down in October 2016. He is now working with Paramount on adapting Anne Rice's classic Vampire Chronicles for television-here's hoping he stays put with that one.

10 episodes in total have been ordered for the new series with each entry said to have a $5 million budget.

The reboot of "Amazing Stories" was originally planned at NBC. (The series originally ran for two seasons in the '80s on the broadcast network when it explored odd, fantastic and supernatural stories.) Fuller was set to pen the original script for Universal Television - who produced the original series - and Amblin Television's Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank. Among those winners was John Lithgow, who won the Outstanding Guest Performer in a Drama Series award for the episode entitled "The Doll". Spielberg himself also directed two episodes during the show's first season in addition to co-creating the series.

Will you be watching a less-than-Fuller Amazing Stories?
