'Sketchy' drawing of Pennsylvania theft suspect actually leads to an ID

'Sketchy' drawing of Pennsylvania theft suspect actually leads to an ID”

City officers say the suspect pretended to be an employee before stealing an undisclosed amount in cash from a stand inside Central Market February 6.

The witness that provided the sketch also provided a description to local authorities, at the time of the initial police report on January 30.

Officials described the suspect as a short Asian or South-American man with wide cheeks and black hair.

"We released all of those details together in our police log in the hope that someone recognises the suspect", police told Lancaster Online. "This was not done in jest".

Pennsylvania police were able to identify Hung Phuoc Nguyen, left, as a suspect in a robbery after a sketch of him, right, circulated, and was mocked on social media.

Reactions to the drawing from social media users have ranged from amusement to surprise.

Another joked: "That guy looks just like my roommate", with the sketch photoshopped on to a picture of his roommate's face. He was believed to be between 30 to 40 years old.

Another commentor said it reminded him of popular singer-songwriter Jason Mraz. "Hahahahaha! The album was titled, 'we sing, we dance, we STEAL things'".

Police said that while the sketch may have appeared "cartoonish", it and the witness' description helped jog the memory of one investigator who recognized the physical description and the modus operandi of the suspect.

A suspect has been identified as the suspect in connection with a crime in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, thanks in part to the help of a simple, hand-drawn sketch provided by a witness.

A cartoonish sketch of a suspected thief, drawn by a witness of the crime, actually led Pennsylvania police to the man in question.
