Rallying-Neuville on course for victory in Rally Sweden

Rallying-Neuville on course for victory in Rally Sweden”

With gravel beginning to protrude from the icy roads on the second run through the Torntorp and Hagfors stages in particular, most crews - including the three Hyundai contenders - opted to take two spare tyres for the remainder of the day that includes the Karlstad and Torsby stages later this evening.

Neuville heads into the final day on Sunday with a 22.7sec lead over Ireland's Craig Breen in a Citroen with Norway's Andreas Mikkelsen, in another Hyundai, in third place, 32 seconds off the lead.

This was fixed before he arrived at the next stage, and his rally lead over Breen stands at 5.9 seconds, aided by a win of the final stage of the morning.

"The vehicle was working great, okay a small issue today that we could fix, other than that a good job".

World champion and three-times Rally Sweden victor Sebastien Ogier, who won last month's Monte Carlo opener, is in 10th place.

He has 16.2s in hand over the leading M-Sport Ford Fiesta of Teemu Suninen, who moved up to eighth on Saturday afternoon after Ott Tanak encountered more frustration.

Despite winning three stages on Saturday, Ott Tänak see's himself down in ninth after a weird incident with Kris Meeke on stage 13 where the Fin ended up in a ditch after trying to overtake the Irishman when the C3's engine kept cutting out. The M-Sport duo of Sébastien Ogier and Elfyn Evans lie tenth and eleventh respectively.

It has been an unhappy day for defending world champion Sebastien Ogier.

Ford's Katsuta Takamoto continues to lead the WRC2 class as his battle continues to intensify with local star Pontus Tidemand in the Skoda with the pair split by 12.2s at the end of Saturday's stages.
