New documentary series will follow up on Making a Murderer

New documentary series will follow up on Making a Murderer”

According to the report, Shawn Rech and Andrew Hale will helm the new documentary series.

Meanwhile, Making a Murderer directors Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos are working on an official sequel to their series.

According to Deadline, Rech will be producing his series with the cooperation of numerous major figures in the State v. Avery trial, in which Avery was convicted to a life sentence for the murder of writer Teresa Halbach. Following the success of "Making a Murderer", a judge ordered that evidence in the Avery case be retested. Much like the way E.L. James retold the tale of Fifty Shades of Grey from the POV of Christian Grey in the companion novel Grey, the story of Steven Avery will soon be seen from another angle in the forthcoming Convicting a Murderer.

"When "Making A Murderer" was produced, many on the law enforcement side of the story could not, or would not, participate in the series, which resulted in a one-sided analysis of the case. This docu-series will examine the case and the allegations of police wrongdoing from a broader perspective". But since then, many people familiar with the case have claimed the documentarians leaned too heavily on evidence that suggests the police in Manitowoc County, Wisconsin, framed Avery, and ignored other details.

Their new documentary White Boy cleared the way for Detroit's infamous Richard Wershe Jr., aka "White Boy Rick", to be paroled after serving 30 years of a life sentence for drug-trafficking as a minor in 1987. Avery was found guilty of the 2005 first-degree murder of Teresa Halbach.

Avery and his nephew Brendan Dassey were both found guilty of the rape and murder of photographer Teresa Halbach, and have both been serving life sentences. Dassey confessed to the murder, but later recanted his confession.

"We fight for the truth", Rech said in a statement.

"We're not prosecutors, we're not defense attorneys, we do not set out to convict or exonerate anyone..." There would have been no other way of doing it.

Filmed over the course of 10 years, Making A Murderer proved pretty monumental in the TV world, shaking up our tiny, meaningless lives with the ultimate real-life murder drama. While it seemed like an open and shut case on the surface, the series raised significant questions about the integrity of the case and possible motives by local authorities to target Avery. "The secret is no".
