North Korea is willing to talk with US, South's leader says

North Korea is willing to talk with US, South's leader says”

"President Moon pointed out the urgency to hold [a] dialogue between North Korea and the U.S.in order to. resolve the issues on the Korean Peninsula and to improve inter-Korean relations", according to the South Korean statement.

According to his office, Moon asked for China's support for U.S.

Washington is also seeking to have the United Nations ban 33 vessels from ports worldwide and blacklist 27 shipping businesses for helping North Korea circumvent sanctions, in a bid to cripple North Korea's maritime network.

The revelation from the South Korean presidency came hours after a furious statement from the North that described fresh sanctions announced by Washington as "an act of war". The White House did not immediately comment.

A senior US administration official said there was no interaction between Ivanka, who was placed next to Moon's wife, and Kim, who was in the row behind her - just two seats away from US General Vincent Brooks, who commands Washington's forces in the South. "We will keep standing strong until North Korea stops threatening our country, our allies or until they abandon their nuclear and ballistic missiles once and for all".

Ivanka, daughter and adviser to U.S. President Donald Trump, led the U.S. delegation to the closing ceremony of the PyeongChang Winter Olympics the same day.

The delegation met with South Korean President Moon Jae-in at an undisclosed location in the Olympic city.

Many observers are speculating whether the White House envoy will greet the North Korean official, who is now the ruling Workers' Party's Central Committee Vice Chairman.

The decision enraged the families of 46 sailors killed in the torpedo attack and threatened the mood of rapprochement that Seoul sought to create at what it called the "Peace Games".

North Korea and the United States, however, had each dismissed the possibility of any interaction between their officials.

China, North Korea's closest ally, said in a response to the U.S. sanctions that "unilateral actions" could undermine cooperation between Beijing and Washington.

The North's delegation took a different route, prompting the opposition Korea Liberty Party to accuse Moon's administration of "abuse of power and an act of treason" by rerouting the motorcade to shield it from the protest.

North Korean envoys to the Games' opening ceremony included Kim Yo Jong, the sister of leader Kim Jong Un.

His efforts received a boost when he met with Vice President Mike Pence, who led a USA delegation to the opening ceremony of the Olympics. They did not speak together.

Kim Yo Jong's trip at the start of the Games - the first visit to the South by a member of the North's ruling dynasty since the Korean War ended in 1953 - made global headlines.

At a closed-door meeting before a banquet Friday night at the presidential compound, Moon told Trump that talks on denuclearization and the inter-Korean dialogue must move forward side by side, Moon's press secretary, Yoon Young-chan, told reporters.

Ivanka Trump, who is also senior adviser to the White House, was in South Korea leading a U.S. delegation to the closing ceremony.

The White House says it will wait and see whether a new overture by North Korea for talks with the United States means it is serious about disarming, a step President Donald Trump and other world leaders agree must be the outcome of any future dialogue.

Hooker, a former East Asia and Pacific affairs analyst with the US State Department Bureau of Intelligence and Research, accompanied James Clapper, then-director of national intelligence, to North Korea in 2014 to secure the release of two Americans detained by the reclusive regime.
