Peace School MD MM Akbar nabbed from Hyderabad

Peace School MD MM Akbar nabbed from Hyderabad”

Controversial Islamic preacher from Kerala Meleveettil Muhammed Akbar was arrested from Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.

In October 2016, the Kerala Police had filed a case against Peace Educational Foundation which runs the Peace International schools in Kerala and neighbouring states of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu for allegedly including objectionable study material in school curriculum aimed at disrupting communal harmony.

The arrest of Akbar comes at a time when the State government had initiated steps to close down all schools run by the Peace Foundation in the State.

A four-member squad led by Vipin Das, sub-inspector of police, Ernakulam North, soon left for Hyderabad and recorded his arrest at 11.30 am on Sunday. "He was on his way from Australia to Qatar via Malaysia and landed in Hyderabad for a brief stopover", one of the sources said.

Akbar is slated to be taken to Kochi by Sunday night and will be produced in a court on Monday after a preliminary round of interrogation. He was apprehended by the emigration officials based on a Look Out Circular issued by the Kerala police, they added. He was detained at Hyderabad airport today afternoon. "A case against Akbar regarding promoting enmity had been registered". He has been arrested in that connection, " George said.

"Earlier, we had arrested three persons associated with the publisher, Mumbai-based Burooj Realization". A probe by the education department found that the school wasn't teaching from texts recommended by the NCERT, CBSE or SCERT.

Akbar's Peace Educational Foundation is also being investigated by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with a case where 21 people from Kerala joined Islamic State.

Abdul Rashid, the alleged leader of the group which went missing, was a public relations officer with the school group before he disappeared.

Rasheed's wives, Aysha and Yasmin Ahmed, also worked at various schools under the Foundations.
