Egypt's leader: Defaming security forces is 'high treason'”

Egypt's army launched a major assault on militants in the Sinai peninsula last month aiming to crush a Daesh insurgency that has targeted security forces and more recently civilians since Muslim Brotherhood President Mohamed Morsi was ousted in 2013.

In a statement, the Egyptian army said that at least 13 militants were killed in the same operations, reported Anadolu Agency. Media regulatory bodies must notify prosecutors of violations by media outlets, he said in a brief statement.

The statement further stated that around 86 "terrorists and criminals" were captured during the operation.

Since the launch of the large-scale anti-terror campaign on February 9, dubbed "Sinai 2018", a total of 95 terrorists have been killed so far while the army has lost 10 soldiers.

Hundreds of soldiers and policemen were killed in Egypt since the army ousted former Islamist President Mohamed Morsi in July 2013 in response to mass protests against his one-year rule and his now outlawed Muslim Brotherhood group.

They added that 100 terrorist shelters and warehouses were found and destroyed, including a number of trenches equipped with pistols, while ammunition, binoculars and military uniforms similar to those of the armed forces were found in several mountainous areas.

"If anyone defames them, he is defaming all Egyptians". [Now it is] "42,630 soldiers and 800 vehicles", said the commander of the Egyptian army.
