Russian Federation reinstated as Olympic country

Russian Federation reinstated as Olympic country”

Russian Federation systemically manipulated the anti-doping regime in Sochi in 2014 and were handed a ban this year.

Russian Federation was banned from the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang due to state-sponsored doping.

"We understand that this was over excitement by the athletes who had just won a gold medal in extraordinary circumstances", the International Olympic Committee said in a statement, the VOA reported, citing AP news agency.

"IOC, WADA and Prof McLaren did not conduct their investigations diligently and open minded and not anticipating the result from the beginning", Wieschemann said.

"The rights of the Russian Olympic Committee have been fully restored", said the president of the Russian Olympic Committee, Alexander Zhukov.

"There is still a lot of work to be done which is likely to be as hard as the work to reinstate the Russian Olympic Committee", he said.

"Our latest victory was a long time ago, and we have dreamt of winning the Games".

"Our athletes performed with Russian Federation in their hearts", Zhukov said.

What to us would make the game probably send you to the edge of your seat is the sight of generally young, very tall and burly men are trying to smash the woefully tiny puck into the back of the net of their opponents' goal. "The ROC is an absolutely full-fledged member of the Olympic family".

The IOC suspended Russia's membership in December over a doping scheme at the 2014 Olympics, but allowed 168 Russians to enter the Pyeongchang Olympics as "Olympic Athletes from Russia" in neutral uniforms.

Russian medalists of the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games have received national awards.

Krushelnitsky and his curling partner, his wife Anastasia Bryzgalova, returned their bronze medals. So was bobsledder and "I don't do doping" t-shirt wearer Nadezhda Sergeeva.

The IOC had promised to rescind its ban on the Soviet nation if no other athletes tested positive for drugs, eventhough two further athletes tested positive for banned substances during Pyeongchang 2018 winter games.

"The bobsled Federation of Russia and the athlete herself understand the extent of her responsibility and realize how what happened can respond to the fate of the whole team", it said in a statement.

The president of the Russian Olympic Committee said the decision was of the "utmost importance" and thanked the Russian athletes in South Korea for performing well "despite the provocations". The World Anti-Doping Agency said it would continue to regard Russia's domestic drug testing organization as noncompliant until it does. The team of athletes from Russian Federation won 17 medals: two golds, six silver and nine bronze medals.

The Olympic Athletes from Russia walked in the parade without a Russian flag, leaving them nationless in a national event, to play only for themselves.
