Tough day for Aussies in South African test

Tough day for Aussies in South African test”

Mitchell Marsh ignited an Australian fightback, but a sublime knock from AB de Villiers has put South Africa ahead by 20 runs at stumps on day two of the second Test.

"Some guys get banned for one thing, other guys getting away with it".

"I thought the middle session was as good (an example of) Test cricket as you will see".

Australian opening batsman David Warner let his bat do the talking after a week of controversy when he made an unbeaten half-century on the first morning of the second Test against South Africa on Friday. He was eventually out chopping a Pat Cummins delivery onto his wicket. "Both teams fought extremely hard", said Mitchell Marsh.

"I think it (the ball) will move around a bit".

"It was important to stay in the fight and it was just my day". I struggle to get a word out of him on the field, so I know he is a very relaxed, laidback guy. Eksteen is a former South African Test player.

"It is a big game for us". Rabada's five came in the space of 18 balls; Jacques Kallis needed 12 against Bangladesh in 2002, and Steyn 16 against West Indies in 2010.

Rabada went on to take a further four wickets after seeing off Smith, ending the innings with figures of 5-96. KG just killed it!

Rabada produced a fast delivery angled in to the stumps to strike Smith on the back pad. Rabada is a few clicks quicker than Theron, which only makes him more risky.

"As a bowler you block out who you're bowling to but he's obviously an unbelievable player", Mitch Marsh said of de Villiers, having trapped du Plessis and de Bruyn lbw.

Perhaps that served as extra motivation to make sure that South Africa would at least go into those matches with a chance to win the series.

Warner has been cleared to play after accepting a penalty of three demerit points and a $13,000 fine for his part in the fracas, while de Kock was given one demerit point and a smaller fine.

Warner's demerit points mean he will automatically cop a suspension if he is charged by the ICC over any incident during the next two years.

De Villiers, as was the case in the first Test when he wasn't running himself out, was a class above.

South Africa were 39 for one at the close. His victims included the prize wicket of David Warner for 63. The 22-year-old then gave him a send-off and brushed his shoulder while crossing the batsman in his celebration. The consequences could be serious.

In turn, South Africa steadfastly believes it was Warner that had engaged in a personal on-field verbal attack that involved members of De Kock's family. Instead, Rabada could now spend the evening pondering the words of Michael Holding, who has tried to impress him on the need to keep himself in check.
