Woman who gouged her eyes out reveals why she did it

Woman who gouged her eyes out reveals why she did it”

The journey will no doubt require many things to allow her to live a full life.

Kaylee Muthart, 20, was heard screaming outside South Main Chapel and Mercy Centre in SC on February 6. Despite her violent delirium, a team of local deputies were eventually able to restrain her long enough to transport her to a trauma unit.

"She is trying so hard to get her thoughts back together, but unfortunately when she was under the influence of methamphetamine, pure evil, she saw things she can not unsee", said Kaylee's mother, Katy Tompkins. "I'm thankful, it's a awful thing, but I'm still thankful because God spared her life".

Ms Muthart, from Anderson, added: 'He later said, when he found me, that I was holding my eyeballs in my hands.

'It was scary, I didn't understand what God wanted of me, but it made me feel a sense of righteousness that I had to be the one to do it.

She said she felt like she was running out of time to "save the world" and was madly searching for an acquaintance. She said she might have tried to gouge out her brain if a pastor had not run out to stop her after she yelled, "I want to see the light!" She moved out of the family home and started buying methamphetamine. But by the following year, she smoked pot she suspects was "laced with either cocaine or meth".

"The day before it happened, which was my birthday, I was getting ready to have her committed, just to get her off the streets and away from it".

'Life's more lovely now, life's more attractive than it was being on drugs. "It is a frightful world to live in", Muthart told PEOPLE.

"When I was 19 last summer, I was smoking pot with an acquaintance at his house and got a odd high", Muthart said.

Doctored believe that the meth that Muthart, above, took may have been laced with another chemical.

Mum Katy Tompkins said she was left horrified when doctors told her Kaylee was now completely blind. She said: "That was a struggle". It became common for Muthart to take ecstasy or meth and read the Bible to herself. She said she felt that the encounter was her sign. After losing her job and realizing the dangers of using the drug, she tried to "steer clear of meth".

While speaking with PEOPLE, Muthart also shared how she came across meth in the first place.

She recalled feeling a high that she never experienced before. She is adjusting to her surroundings but overall she's doing well.

She lost her job because she was "too embarrassed" to go to work after she picked at her face following her trip on the narcotic.

A month later she found another job, where a co-worker there pressured her to try meth, to which she eventually agreed. She was recently released from a psychiatric facility and has vowed to stay clear of drugs. She took a video recording of her behavior on it.

She admitted that after using meth she returned to it because she felt isolated and lonely.

"I'll forget I'm blind sometimes because I know what's around me". She fought so hard that her wrists hurt for weeks.

Now that she is sober she devoting her time to service by working as a public speaker for the Commission for the Blind as she is learning to adapt to her new world.

'I'm able to be Kaylee again. But I know the drugs numbed the pain. I'm Kaylee Jean Muthart, just like I was 10 years ago.

She realized that someone had to sacrifice something to "right the world, and that person was me".

Muthart has raised £16,400 of her £36,000 fundraising goal to get a guide dog via GoFundMe.
