Does America need the American Idol reboot right now?

America Idol is officially back.

Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie all appeared in the first episode of "American Idol" reboot on Sunday. Lionel Richie, who is on the judges' panel alongside Katy Perry and Luke Bryan, told us that he's been very excited to join the show, and he thinks that enthusiasm will be contagious for the show's viewers.

In the March 11 premiere, viewers witnessed talent from all over auditioning in Los Angeles, New York City, Savannah, and New Orleans. She gets a ticket to Hollywood.

Layla, a 16-year-old high school student from Marion County, KY, performed "Who's Lovin' You" by the Jackson Five. He has an emotional backstory, but fails to immediately wow Katy and Lionel with his rendition of James Bay's "Let It Go". Lionel, Katy and Luke did you hear what the home audience heard? hearing? After 15 seasons on Fox, and less than two years off-air, the once-popular television series back-this time on ABC. The judges suggested he should work on his craft and come back in a couple years to try out again.

Benjamin started his performance a bit flustered by the unplanned kiss, and all three judges declined to send him to Hollywood. Perry got goosebumps from her and called her Top 10 material. Each judge recommended that she stay committed to the Great White Way rather than a recording contract.

Last, we see 19-year-old socially awkward cashier, Benjamin Glaze.

Gabbii Jones, 20, St. Louis, MO: Her father has given her 30 days to make her dreams of stardom come true, or else she's got to get a job.

Five more artists advanced with impressive auditions: Harper Grace, Ron Bultongez, Maddie Poppe, Layla Spring, and Noah Davis. All of the judges love her voice so they vote her through and she has an entire clan waiting for her! Noah, meanwhile, immediately wins them over with his sparkling personality and his odd desire to own an alpaca. But Alyssa proved what I've said countless times - it doesn't matter how old you are because talent is talent. "When we're not compassionate, we get emotional".

The next Idol hopeful is 26-year-old Sardor Milano, who won a Russian singing competition years ago. That opening note was awful and of course, the speechless judges did not put him through.

The last performer of the night was Dennis Lorenzo, who carried his own trauma from childhood along with his guitar bearing a hole.

It's the same feedback she got almost 10 years ago, when she made it to Hollywood on the show. However, on this show, you just never know if a good personality will translate into a good audition.
