Eddie Jones: England boss open to bringing in new attack coach”

The head coach rejected the notion that England will be motivated by thoughts of revenge for Saturday's game at Twickenham, looking to do to Ireland as they did to England last season at the Aviva Stadium when denying Jones' team back-to-back Grand Slams.

England have only scored two tries in their last two Six Nations matches and are now without a specialist backs coach.

"It is always a possibility, but the problem is the breakdown at the moment, not the attack". If he's fit then he'll be playing.

Saturday's surprise 22-16 loss to France saw Ireland claim the Six Nations title and end England's dominance in the competition under Jones. "The attack is a outcome of not being able to generate good, quick ball at the breakdown".

A loss to the newly-crowned champions this weekend will nearly certainly not cost Jones his job, given his success in winning 24 of 27 games in charge since the start of 2016, but he is aware of how their Six Nations rivals have learned to expose England's biggest weakness in competing at the breakdown.

'I think that every good team goes through this period, it's actually an essential part of developing a great team, ' said Jones. "We have been aware of those cracks, but sometimes you need someone to come in and whack a sledgehammer on it to open it up and get real change".

'The learnings we'll get from this, albeit very painful, are absolutely crucial going forward because it is about how we respond. There are shadows in any room.

"It's better happening now because it gives us a chance to fix it before the World Cup [in 2019]".

British and Irish Lions hooker Jamie George failed to fire against the French after being handed a rare start, leaving Jones eager to bring Hartley back as he looks salvage pride by derailing Ireland's hopes of winning a third grand slam.

Northampton flanker Courtney Lawes and Wasps No 8 Nathan Hughes will miss the Ireland match with knee injuries, and Jones is waiting to discover whether captain Dylan Hartley's calf problem has cleared. "Calf injuries can be a bit tricky", added Jones.
