Former Patriots WR expected to sign with Miami Dolphins, per report”

According to the NFL Network, the Dolphins appear to be the front-runner to sign Danny Amendola, a nine-year veteran who has spent the past five seasons with the Patriots. He was one of Tom Brady's favorite targets in the playoffs, coming down with numerous clutch third-down catches, not to mention both of the team's fourth quarter touchdowns in New England's comeback win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in the AFC Championship Game.

It's a stunning development, as most analysts assumed Amendola would return for another season in New England if he elected to keep playing. News broke earlier in the day that Chiefs wideout Albert Wilson was heading to Miami on a three-year, $24 million deal. The deal can not be officially signed until March 14, which is the start of the new league year.

Amendola becomes the second receiver the Dolphins have reportedly agreed to terms with since the free agent negotiating period opened on Monday.

The receiver had taken paycuts in each of the last three seasons, and it looks like he chose to cash-in this offseason.

The Dolphins traded slot receiver Jarvis Landry to the Browns this past week. Kenny Stills and DeVante Parker were expected to start, and Jakeem Grant proved he had big-play ability in the second half of the season.
