Miles Bridges US Basketball Writers Second Team All-American”

Michigan State sophomore Miles Bridges was named to the United States Basketball Writers Associations's All-American Second Team on Monday. Bridges finished second on the team with 6.9 rebounds per game and third with 2.8 assists per game. The Wayman Tisdale Award victor as the National Freshman Player of the Year, Oklahoma's Trae Young, is joined by fellow first-year phenoms Deandre Ayton of Arizona and Duke's Marvin Bagley III. Bates-Diop was also voted Big Ten Player of the Year, and Bridges was named a unanimous selection to the conference's first team. The Big Ten rivals could meet in the Final Four, but first they'll have to make it through the gauntlet of their respective regions.

Ayton boosted surging Arizona to both Pac-12 Conference titles and earned the league's player of the year honor.

Xavier: Take away the Villanova defeats and the Big East champs have only three losses this season, having averaged 84 points per game.

This is one of several honors for Bridges, who was selected to the National Ballot for the John R. Wooden Award®, is one of five finalists for the Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year Award, is one of 10 national semifinalists competing for the 50th Citizen Naismith Trophy for Men's College Player of the Year and is on the watch list for the Oscar Robertson Trophy. In addition, former Missouri and Hall of Fame coach Norm Stewart and retired referee Ed Hightower each will receive lifetime achievement awards.

The 6-foot-7 forward is joined on the second team by Ohio State's Keita Bates-Diop, Xavier's Trevon Bluiett, Texas Tech's Keenan Evans, and Jock Landale of Saint Mary's. The Big Ten Player of the Year was also named USBWA District V Player of the Year last week.
