Record number awaiting admission to hospitals today, 24 at LUH”

714 people were waiting for a hospital bed according to the INMO.

"Nursing home beds are available across the country and it is essential our health services work together for the betterment of patients within our hospitals and to support healthcare delivery".

"They took the view they would leave it to each hospital and the situation developed over the week, (with numbers on trolleys) rising every single day".

Hospitals are bracing themselves for another day of chronic overcrowding.

Ms Ní Sheaghdha said the conditions under which patients were being cared for were just "unsafe".

"We saw record trolley figures last week, as predicted by the INMO, due to pressures on hospitals following Storm Emma". "Doctors are at the end of their tether with this ongoing crisis and it looks like there is simply no end in sight".

Fianna Fáil health spokesperson Billy Kelleher has described the figures as "absolutely deplorable".

Figures by the Health Service Executive on Monday morning showed there were 534 patients on trolleys in hospital emergency departments. "This is surely some breach of human rights?"

The Irish health system is crumbling under the weight of 714 people languishing on trolleys, a figure that marks an all-time record of abject failure by the HSE.

"It is critical that the capacity review, published earlier this year, is acted on as a matter of urgency", he said.

Tallaght University Hospital said in a statement today that it is experiencing a very high number of emergency attendances, which is resulting in longer patient waiting times.
