Solid hiring climate forecasted for Waterloo Region

Solid hiring climate forecasted for Waterloo Region”

Canadian employers' hiring intentions are at their highest level in several years - and Waterloo Region's employers are even more bullish on growing their teams.

Regional comparisons Staffing levels are expected to increase in all five regions during 2Q 2018.

According to the report, USA employer hiring confidence is staying strong in Q2 2018 as one in five plan to grow their workforce in the three months ahead.

According to ManpowerGroup, the local financial, insurance and real estate sector recorded the highest net hiring outlook of 32 percent for the first quarter of next year among the seven major sectors, unchanged from a quarter earlier but down 1 percentage points over the same period of last year. The hiring prospects have improved by three percentage points compared to Q2 2017. "As the Western Cape province continues to struggle under a debilitating drought, businesses are making large investments in securing water supply".

The impact of a softer outlook in the Mining & Construction sector can be seen in Queensland where hiring expectations are down three percentage points year-on-year as the state deals with an end to the frenetic pace of apartment building in Brisbane over recent years.

ManpowerGroup Employment Outlook Survey results are based on interviews with more than 11,500 employers in the 50 states, District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. Elsewhere, employers forecast a steady increase in staffing levels with Outlooks of +16% and +14% for the East and the West, respectively. Meanwhile, the outlook of -1% for the electricity, gas and water sector reflects uncertain hiring prospects. The strongest outlooks are reported in Leisure & Hospitality (+28%), Professional & Business Services (+23%), Wholesale & Retail Trade (+23%), and Durable Goods Manufacturing (+19%). While there won't be layoffs, hiring as such will be lower than in previous quarters. The most noteworthy increase of 15 percentage points is reported in the manufacturing sector. Sales and service occupations employ the most Richmond residents, while positions in business, finance and administration come up second.

Employers in all four regions expect to increase payrolls during the next three months. Conversely, Italian employers report the second-quarter's weakest hiring plans, as well as the only negative forecast among all countries and territories participating in the survey.

AG Rao, Group Managing Director at ManpowerGroup India, said, "Indian job seekers are likely to benefit from the positive labour market during the April-June period".
