Spotify launched in South Africa

Spotify launched in South Africa”

Apple is now in battle with music streaming services from tech giants like Amazon.com Inc and Google as well as other dominant streaming music services like Spotify.

Apple's streaming music service now enjoys 38 million paid subscribers, an increase of two million subscribers since the company last reported figures in February.

Apple said Eddy Cue, senior vice president of internet software and services, disclosed the most recent subscriber number for Apple Music at the South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas. Spotify is offering a one month free trial as did Apple Music although Deezer is offering a three months free trial. The premium service will be priced at $6 (NIS 19.9) per month and include tracks by local and worldwide artists as well as playlists compiled by local radio stations and celebrities. There is also an option for a free account which includes ads. Based on the pricing of company stock traded on private markets, the company, launched in 2008 and headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden, is valued at $23.4 billion. The premium version of Spotify gives users unlimited skips, and allows them to listen to music while off-line. However, Apple Music and Spotify's combined subscribers only touch 100 million.
