Jets 'working on a deal' for QB Teddy Bridgewater”

The New York Jets are working on a deal for Teddy Bridgewater, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

The Vikings have reportedly offered quarterback Kirk Cousins a three-year, $86 million deal.

The New York Jets have roughly $90 million in cap space, the most in the National Football League, although they've been quiet throughout the first 24 hours of free agency. While Bridgewater was healthy enough to be on the Vikings roster a year ago, the consistent play of Case Keenum kept the former first round pick on the sidelines. NY were surprisingly competitive during the season and went 5-8 in games he was under center.

So what do the Jets do now?

Bridgewater finally made his return to the field last season after he spent close to two years recovering from the traumatic knee injury he suffered in 2016.

After the expected growing pains in his rookie campaign, he improved in the 2015 season, finishing with 3,231 passing yards, 14 touchdowns, nine interceptions and a 65.3 completion percentage. The performance earned him his first-ever Pro Bowl selection with the feeling that he would be the team's quarterback of the future.

Bridgewater played in Louisville and even played at the University of Minnesota's stadium while the Vikings' new stadium was being built, so there is no reason to be anxious about him playing in a colder, and outdoor, MetLife Stadium.

So if Bridgewater were to struggle or if he encountered injury issues once again, there would be confidence that McCown could step in and produce.

Bridgewater is a high character player who has played well at times and may very well become the team's QB of the future, but until he proves he can be that guy, Maccagnan still has to secure a quarterback with the 6th pick (or higher) come draft day. While he could still be brought back as a veteran mentor, it seems unlikely if they sign Bridgewater.
