Muhammad Wilkerson to sign with Green Bay Packers

Muhammad Wilkerson to sign with Green Bay Packers”

Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst and cap manager Russ Ball delivered a big-time talent on defense at a price point everyone should be able to agree on. Wilkerson's signing won't count toward the compensatory pick formula, which played a key role in steering the Thompson-era Packers away from free agency, like Graham's will since the defensive lineman is a street free agent.

Tom Pelissero of NFL.com says the contract is one year, $5 million with up to $3 million in incentives. He took a one-year deal and will have a chance to prove he's the player he was.

The Packers will soon find out if Muhammad Wilkerson is right for them. "#Packers should be getting a motivated player".

But Wilkerson had already visited Green Bay, and he was on his way to Washington.

He'll also get to do playing with his old defensive coordinator Pettine, who was on the Jets with Rex Ryan when Wilkerson was drafted by NY back in 2011. Coach Mike McCarthy fired defensive coordinator Dom Capers in January after nine seasons. If anyone knows how good Wilkerson can be, it's Pettine. Wilkerson produced eight sacks in 28 games over the past two seasons.

Still, defensive line might be the deepest position on the Packers' defensive roster, with budding star Kenny Clark, Pro Bowler Mike Daniels and the improving Dean Lowry.

The Jets placed the franchise tag on Wilkerson in 2016 to prevent him from hitting free agency, but his future with the team remained in doubt. The bigger positions of need are at cornerback and outside linebacker. He noted it's a "position we're looking at heavily" on Tuesday evening, via ESPN.
