Man claims to have found missing MH370 plane 'on Google Earth'

Man claims to have found missing MH370 plane 'on Google Earth'”

Relatives of passengers on board the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 have a moment of silence during the Day of Remembrance for MH370 event in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Authorities investigating the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 has commented on an Australian engineer's claim that he was able to track down the missing plane on Google Earth, saying "spurious claims" must be particularly upsetting for the family and friends of those lost on the flight. He has zeroed in on a location 16km south of Round Island, a small islet north of Mauritius.

"I do not know, but there are also other countries that have information like England with Inmarsat, with Rolls-Royce, like the United States with Boeing and like the Federal Bureau of Investigation who went the next day and took the pilot's flight simulator and never said anything to the investigators. They have made sure that all information received has been hidden from the public", the engineer told the Daily Star.

A spokesperson for the Joint Agency Coordination Centre has told news.com.au that the images sent to ATSB were captured on November 2009.

McMahon says he has sent his findings to the Australian Transport and Safety Bureau, which confirmed it could be the missing craft.

McMahon, according to The Sun, also claimed officials didn't want the plane to be found because "it's full of bullet holes" - a subject which he did not further elaborate.

Earlier this year, United States firm Ocean Infinity took up an offer from Malaysia to try to track down the plane before June in exchange for a £50 million reward if it is found.

MH370 Response Team head Datuk Seri Azharuddin Abdul Rahman said it was aware of a widely circulated report titled "MH370 found on Google Earth".

The Guardian reported a Malaysian official as saying that the search for Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 by a USA company will likely end in June.

The MH370 is believed to have crashed into the Indian Ocean, but an extensive deep-sea hunt off Australia's west coast is drawing to a close with nothing found yet.

Flight MH370 from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing went missing on March 8, 2014.
