Classic Mini gets all-electric conversion

Classic Mini gets all-electric conversion”

Presumably because they haven't got the new MINI EV ready to roll yet, BMW has made a decision to keep interest alive by delivering a classic Mini complete with an electric powertrain. Or the classic Mini Electric if you want to give it the official name.

Mini has announced that it will be demonstrating its EV appetite at the auto show with a classic Mini vehicle that has been converted to an all-electric vehicle.

Mini says that the EV classic is the result of an imaginary journey through time where the classic model is fitted with modern EV components. Rally-style lights deck the front along with the new Mini E logo, which lets us know that this one's a zero-emission Mini.

"We always joke and say if Issigonis was to invent the Mini today, it would definitely be an electric auto", said Mackensen.

For now, environmentally conscious Mini owners will have to make do with a plug-in hybrid model of the Mini Cooper Countryman, which gets around 25 miles of range in its fully electric mode.

The Mini Electric, first previewed by the Mini Electric concept of 2017, has been spotted on numerous occasions in public, including a recent stint of cold weather testing in a mule based on the pre-facelift three-door. We're expecting a single electric motor at the front axle and enough battery capacity for a range of more than 200 miles for the auto. The Classic Mini Electric is not now set for production - even as a limited-run special edition. We're confident the instant torque of electric powertrains and low center of gravity by having batteries in the floor will help preserve the go-kart feel-smaller-Minis are renowned for.
