Bukar's Death A Great Loss To Nigeria's Democracy”

Bukar, who was representing Katsina North Senatorial District, died at 63, in a private hospital in Abuja in the early hours of Wednesday.

Born December 31, 1954, the senator obtained an engineering degree from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in 1978.

A source close to the Senate President Bukola Saraki, confirmed the death of the lawmaker via telephone.

Bukar, while alive, was the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Capital Market.

President Buhari also condoled with the family, friends and professional colleagues of the legislator, who he said distinguished himself as an engineer before vying for political office to serve his people.

Mustapha Bukar has been buried in Daura, Katsina state, on Wednesday. "We should emulate such rare and hardworking Nigerians for the progress of our country", he added.

In a statement by his Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, in Abuja, Saraki described the death of Senator Bukar as one too many coming a few weeks after the Red Chamber lost Senator Ali Wakili.

According to a biographical sketch published by National Assembly, Bukar finished his primary education in Daura in 1968, and thereafter went to Government Secondary School, Katsina.

NAN also quotes Mustapha's younger brother, Kanta Bukar, as confirming the news.

He was general manager of Kaduna state water board in 1991.
