Apple Co-Founder Shuts Down His Facebook Account”

Wozniak also added a comparison between Apple and the social media giant, putting special emphasis on how the two companies conduct business. While speaking to USA Today, he expressed concern like several others about how Facebook and other application companies are misusing private information of their users to make money for its advertisers without giving a penny of it to the actual users.

In a meeting late Monday in Philadelphia with The Associated Press, Wozniak said he had been thinking for some time of erasing his record and made the move after a few of his trusted companions erased their Facebook accounts a week ago. He notes Zuckerberg bought lots and houses around his home to ensure his privacy. "The profits are all based on the user's info, but the users get none of the profits back".

"Apple makes money off of good products, not off of you", he said. While heaping praises on his firm Apple, for respecting privacy of its users, he said that he would be willing to pay to use Facebook, if the firm agreed not to use his personal information for advertising purposes. "He knows the value of it, but he's not looking after mine".

"Users provide every detail of their life to Facebook and ..."

Facebook has announced technical changes meant to address privacy issues.

Zuckerberg has apologized, and Facebook's No. 2 official, Sheryl Sandberg, has said she's sad the organization let such a large number of individuals down.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg will appear in Congress this week to testify on the company's data practices in the fallout from the scandal.

Apple and general nerd icon Steve "The Woz" Wozniak has recently revealed that he had dropped Facebook and has now abandoned his account.
