Android P might come with gesture-based navigation bar”

While Android P is yet to completely emerge as the Android Oreo successor, it has now been spotted that this new Android version will bring an experience similar to the iPhone X. The post that revealed this massive design overhaul was later edited by Google. As you can see below, the home button is now shaped like a white pill or bar, indicating you might not have to tap the home button anymore. The blog post was notably not created to exhibit the new experience but to highlight the availability of a Private DNS mode on the first Android P Developer Preview release.

The difference is obvious: the recent apps button is missing and the home button is now a pill-box like on the iPhone X. The back button is still there, but it isn't reminiscent of the Google Pixel's style of filled-in navigation bar buttons.

Could this be our first look at Google's new direction for Android's navigation? For example, if you are on the home screen, the back button won't be displayed.

The way we interact with our Android phones has been changing lately; previously there were hard buttons on the Android phones for navigation. But folks at 9to5Google have communicated with Android Twitter and they are confirming that it as actually gesture-based navigation control and would most likely be a new overhaul for Android. However, it nowhere shows creativity for the search giant to implement a feature that was initially deployed by one of its closest rivals.

Android P is coming down the line and we're expecting to hear much more about Google's next mobile operating system update at the Google I/O developer conference in May.
