USA 'has no moral right to blame other countries' - Russian Federation”

President Vladimir Putin has said Russian Federation will call an emergency session of the UN Security Council over air strikes on Syria. Putin added that the strike had a "destructive influence on the entire system of worldwide relations".

He wrote on Twitter: "The PM has engaged United Kingdom forces in gesture bombing, with no major global consensus and no long term plan to halt the use of chemical weapons or deliver peace". Syrians poured into the streets for defiant demonstrations of their national pride.

Asked if the strikes had also been a warning to Russian Federation, the PM said: "The action that took place last night was an action which was focused on degrading and deterring the operational capability and the willingness of the Syrian regime to continue to use chemical weapons".

The president on Monday had condemned the suspected chemical attack, calling it a "heinous" act and saying his administration would soon make "major decisions" on how to respond.

In the six days between the attack and the US-led response, Washington and Moscow clashed repeatedly in duelling press statements and United States debates.

The US did not give details on what weapons the B-1s were carrying, but US officials did say air-launched cruises missiles were used in the strike.

The strikes were a response to a suspected chemical weapons attack on the Syrian town of Douma last weekend which killed dozens of civilians.

Mrs May said "every possible diplomatic channel" had been explored before authorising the strikes, adding that it was not a decision she had taken lightly. Trump said he was prepared to sustain the response until Assad's government stopped its use of chemical weapons.

"These carried out coordinated cruise missile strikes in tight coordination with our American and British allies", Parly said.

Trump said that he chose to take action because last weekend's action by Assad "was a significant attack against his own people", and "not the actions of a man, they are crimes of a monster instead". Another official said that targets were being carefully selected with the aim of damaging Assad's ability to conduct further gas attacks.

He said it is hard to predict what the future holds.

The Kremlin said Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke with Macron and the two leaders agreed to coordinate their actions to avoid further military escalation in Syria. But the description from an ally described things differently.

A US defense official said the US Air Force used B-1B bombers in the Syria strike.

Witnesses on the ground in Damascus reported hearing explosions in the Syrian capital, where more than a million people live.

"It was limited to specific objectives: the destruction of the Syrian regime's chemical capabilities to stop it from committing new chemical massacres".

The third target was a chemical weapons equipment storage facility and an important command post, also west of Homs, Dunford said.

"So there is no practicable alternative to the use of force to degrade and deter the use of chemical weapons by the Syrian regime", she said. It is not about regime change.

Three civilians were wounded in Homs after "several" missiles were intercepted by Syrian air defense systems, Syrian state TV said.

Both local lawmakers and Syrians are reacting Friday night to President Donald Trump's announcement of strikes in Syria.

USS Ross (DDG 71) fires a tomahawk land-attack missile on April 7, 2017.

Russian officials condemned the US -led airstrikes on three sites in Syria early Saturday, calling the attacks "treacherous and insane" and a "clear and present danger to world peace". The territory where the Russian military bases are located were not touched.

The U.K. -based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which monitors the Syrian war through activists on the ground, said the strikes had also targeted positions of elite Republican Guard forces.

Hudson argues a limited, proportional response is the right call.

The Western missile strikes demonstrate the volatile nature of the Syrian civil war, which started in March 2011 as an anti-Assad uprising but is now a proxy conflict involving a number of world and regional powers and a myriad of insurgent groups.

Let's be clear: These limited strikes nearly certainly did not destroy the Syrian government's entire chemical weapons stockpile, let alone seriously set back its ability to fight anti-government rebels. U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said Friday the first team was already in Syria and a second was expected soon.

There are now reports of Russian jets patrolling Syrian airspace, having taken back control of the area.
