Korean Air CEO's daughter suspended 'for throwing water'

Korean Air CEO's daughter suspended 'for throwing water'”

Korean Air Lines said that it has suspended senior vice president Cho Hyun-min from her duties as of Monday following a police probe into her alleged abusive behavior. She is also the sister of Cho Hyun-ah, the former Korean Air executive who forced an worldwide flight to return to the gate after she heavily berated crew members for the way a bag of macadamia nuts were served. Later that day, she sent an email to all Korean Air employees to apologize for the incident, saying she will take all criticism to heart.

Unions have urged Emily Cho to step down over her actions, which they said harmed the airline's reputations. Cho oversaw Korean Air's marketing and commercials.

"I apologise for my foolish behaviour", she said.

Cho's sister, Hyun-ah, achieved worldwide notoriety after delaying a flight at John F. Kennedy Airport over the way nuts were served.

It was reported Thursday that Cho, who is in charge of the company's advertisement projects, allegedly yelled and threw water at a manager of an ad agency in a meeting last month, after losing her temper because she was unsatisfied with answers to her questions.

The case attracted intense attention in South Korea, reopening a national debate about the Korean business system, which is dominated by family firms known as chaebols.

She demanded the flight crew chief be expelled from the plane after she was served macadamia nuts in a bag, not a dish, and the plane had to go back to the gate.

"There is a huge chance that foreigners who read the news about the founding family's abuse of power would assume that it is part of South Korea's national image", the petition read.
