Rohingya camp gutted in Delhi's Kalindi Kunj, no casualties reported”

A Rohingya camp in South East Delhi's Kalindi Kunj area was razed to the ground after a massive fire broke out early on Sunday.

It took 11 fire tenders two hours to douse the flames, which devoured everything in the way.

Sanjana Srikumar, a lawyer working on the Rohingya issue, told Business Standard that "there was nothing left in the camp; everything was burnt to the ashes" She also mentioned that the resident lost their United Nations cards, issued to give them the refugee status. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported so far; only one person got injured during the incident.

Mohammad Shakir, one of the residents of the camp said that about 230 people from the Rohingya community were staying in the camp.

A resident with a heavy heart has said that "We have also lost all our articles, including refugee cards and money as the fire spread very quickly". Biswal also said that they have also registered a case under relevant section under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against people at Jaitpur police station, and are trying to examine the cause of the fire. Forty-six Rohingya families - 226 people - lived in the settlement, which is the only Rohingya camp in the city. "We are being provided food and clothes by the locals, a lot of help was provided by police". They have been provided with tents and mosquito nets.
