Woolworths meltdown closes stores across Australia

Woolworths meltdown closes stores across Australia”

A nationwide technical glitch forced Woolworths to halt trading this afternoon, with shutters coming down on stores across Australia.

At Double Bay in Sydney's eastern suburbs, a hastily printed-out explanation for the closure said it was "due to system crashed" (sic).

Reports on social media showed customers being turned away or asked to abandon trolleys of groceries and leave stores during the outage.

ALL #woolworths checkouts have stopped working.

Social media posts have revealed shoppers are banked up in stores with their trolleys, unable to move.

Sky News has reported that customers were told to leave and come back in an hour.

"They've told everyone just to leave their food and leave the store". "We apologise for the inconvenience this caused our customers".

The outage has also shut down entire stores. Staff said every register in every store nation wide has shut down.

Shortly after 4pm, the issue began affecting all registers across the country.

The supermarket giant has taken to Twitter to confirm the IT issue has since been resolved.
