Instagram: New "Music Stickers" In The Works

Instagram: New

Facebook-owned Instagram has been hard at work testing and rolling out new features.

While none of it is confirmed by Instagram yet, these stickers could most likely be added to videos, but maybe Instagram will let users include them in photos too.

In an APK teardown of the Instagram Android app, TechCrunch contributor Ishan Agarwal was able to find a code that suggests users will soon be able to add "music stickers" to their Instagram Stories.

Recently, there are signs that Instagram will let users add Music Stickers to their stories.

There's no confirmation from Instagram at press time on these music features, and, there's always a chance of Instagram scrapping the development of these features and decide not to roll it out. However, it could be a bigger threat to Musically, an app meant for lip syncing to music. The feature worked in such a way that users can share their music directly to Instagram Stories from Spotify, and the artwork will appear with an option to play directly on Spotify. Codes within the Instagram app have outed new features before, including the new Focus mode and the Video Chat feature. This would tie in quite well with Facebook's recent push for enabling users of third-party services, such as Spotify, GoPro, and SoundCloud to share content from these apps to their Facebook and Instagram Stories. The social media giant also entered an agreement with Sony/ATV and Global Music Rights this past January, and with Warner Music Group back in March. The feature will allow you to search and add music clips to your stories.

Another developer, Jane Manchun Wong, has however been able to test the new Music Stickers feature and has provided the above screenshot taken directly from within the Instagram app, showing the prototype design looking a bit janky and slow causing the app to crash when she tried to post anything using the music stickers.

With this feature, you can search for appropriate tunes under different tabs labeled as "Moods", "Trending", and "Genres". Instagram Stories now supports videos that are only 15 seconds long, and it is not clear how it will pick song for the story.
