Britain will not 'walk away' from Iran nuclear deal, Johnson tells MPs

Britain will not 'walk away' from Iran nuclear deal, Johnson tells MPs”

During the Majlis' Wednesday session, Speaker Ali Larijani said Trump's decision to leave the JCPOA and re-impose anti-Iran sanctions was a violation of the accord that would isolate the U.S.

State Duma's Deputy Speaker Pyotr Tolstoy (United Russia) said Trump's decision to quit the Iran nuclear deal is "another round of crisis" in global relations.

Trump's decision could eventually mean less oil on the world market from Iran because now the US will reimpose economic sanctions on Iran that were lifted as part of the 2015 deal.

US drivers who have noticed higher prices at the pump may be tempted to blame Trump's Iran decision, but it's only one factor at play right now.

"We can't put much confidence in their statements about preserving the agreement, but it's worth testing for a few weeks so that it's clear to the world that Iran has tried all the avenues to a peaceful political resolution", Larijani told parliament.

US Defense Secretary Jim Mattis insisted Wednesday that the US would keep working with its allies to prevent Iran from getting nuclear weapons - despite Trump's withdrawal from a deal created to do just that.

Mattis risks being isolated by Trump's more hardline coterie of advisors, including national security advisor John Bolton, an Iraq War-era hawk who has advocated military action in both Iran and North Korea.

"America will not be held hostage to nuclear blackmail", Trump said in a speech announcing his decision. What the United States are doing is first applicable law in the US.

On Wednesday, Trudeau said the 2015 agreement that was negotiated by the world's major powers wasn't ideal, but it helped prevent that country from developing a nuclear weapon.

"The JCPOA is a significant achievement in this regard".

But the leaders of Britain, Germany and France, which were signatories to the deal along with China and Russian Federation, said in a joint statement that Trump's decision was a cause for "regret and concern" and were seeking to salvage the deal. But he left perhaps the most critical question unaddressed: What, precisely, is US policy toward Iran?

British Prime Minister Theresa May, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Emmanuel Macron and United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres have all warned Trump not to scrap the deal. The last time the US imposed sanctions on Tehran, its crude oil exports shrank by a million barrels per day.

Chagai Tzuriel, director general of Israel's Ministry of Intelligence, told The Canadian Press that he was seeking support from Canada and Western countries for either cancelling or strengthening a deal that his government views as flawed and ultimately ineffective in stopping Iran's pursuit of nuclear weapons.

"Let's say that Iran's oil production does go down by half a million barrel per day, which would impact the price more positively - so, even with lower production, Iran may not be in such a bad position because of the higher oil price", said Aslam.

Washington's actions were "flagrantly trampling on the norms of worldwide law", Russia's foreign ministry said.

Speaking in the White House on Tuesday, Mr Trump said the agreement - seen as the key diplomatic legacy of his predecessor Barack Obama - was "defective at its core". And he said the Trump administration could have worked to negotiate a separate agreement on ballistic missiles and other sore spots left unaddressed by Obama's deal.
