De Gea scoops first Golden Glove award

De Gea scoops first Golden Glove award”

"It feels good, it is my first Golden Glove award", De Gea told MUTV after United's 0-0 draw with West Ham United at the Olympic Stadium on Thursday night.

The Manchester United goalkeeper is considered one of the finest in the world in his position, but the honour has eluded him since he joined from Atletico Madrid in 2011. Eighteen is the highest clean sheet tally recorded in the Premier League since 2012/13, when Manchester City's Joe Hart also kept that amount. "It was a really good season for me", said the Spain worldwide.

Former Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen has indicated that David de Gea's brilliance this season has shielded the Red Devils defenders from criticism.

"David has been terrific", manager Jose Mourinho said.

David de Gea has widely been considered the top goalkeeper in the Premier League for years, and now can claim an elusive bit of hardware to back it up.

"Of course I can understand that it's a team effort, this and that but we know what he has done".

"It is for everyone, it is a team award, not just for the goalkeeper. It's good for me but I am also happy for the team".

It is the first time the Spain global is claiming the prize, which is handed out each season to the goalkeeper who keeps the most clean sheets.

It is not a game which will live long in the memory of anyone except De Gea, who has reached 18 clean sheets with a game to spare and will therefore receive the "Golden Glove" award at the fifth time of trying since joining Man United.
