Ekiti APC aspirants want primary to hold Sunday

Ekiti APC aspirants want primary to hold Sunday”

"We also want you, the National Chairman and the National Working Committee of the APC, to take cognisance of the notorious fact that the flag off of the registration of new members was done in Ekiti not quite two months ago, therefore, the National Secretariat of the party can not ascertain the actual number of members in Ekiti State since the registers are yet to be submitted, verified and authenticated as official document of APC bearing members' names in Ekiti State".

Majority of the aspirants at a stakeholders meeting on Tuesday voted for direct primary, a process through which all card- carrying members of the party in the 177 wards will have the opportunity of voting in the primary.

"We have up till next week to submit the name of our candidate; we have fixed Friday for the primary and that hasn't change", he said.

Former National Chairman of the party Chief Bisi Akande, who briefed newsmen after the meeting, said the leaders would advise the party national leadership on the proposed fresh primary in Ekiti.

The Ekiti state chapter of the APC has been embroiled in crisis following the botched governorship primary that ended in violence and destruction of ballot papers at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium in Ado Ekiti.

The party had on Tuesday announced that the election would hold on Friday May 11.

It, however, said all the aspirants will be allowed to participate in the rescheduled primaries, to give a level-playing ground due to the time limit, while stating that necessary action will be taken after the primaries against those found to have committed infractions.

"There has been consultation all night with the chairman and other stakeholders".

Some of the aspirants present include Babafemi Ojudu, Segun Oni, Opeyemi Bamidele, Senator Gbenga Aluko, Hon.

He said: "Consensus is already in our Constitution and it is an option; also primary election is already in our Constitution".
