A 1988-batch officer, Roy had also worked as the joint commissioner of police (crime) in Mumbai. Reports suggest that the officer killed himself at his own residence using a service revolver. He had been reportedly suffering from bone cancer for a long time and was on leave for more than a year.

Himanshu Roy headed the Anti-Terror Squad of Maharashtra. Roy was serving as Additional Director General of Police (ADGP).

Former Maharashtra ATS chief, Himanshu Roy, who was now serving as Maharashtra ADGP, shot himself dead with his service revolve at his residence on Friday.

Himanshu Roy led investigations into several big cases including the 2013 Indian Premier League spot-fixing case.

Officer allegedly shot himself at his home in Mumbai. However, Singh was later released on June 3, 2013, by a Mumbai Court.
