Judge allows key testimony at Missouri Gov. Greitens' trial”

(MissouriNet) - The St. Louis judge presiding over the felony invasion case of Governor Eric Greitens said the name of the former mistress will be used during the trial.

Attorneys for both sides will choose from a pool of 160 potential jurors after determining whether they can be impartial about the case, which has dominated Missouri headlines for months.

Greitens, once considered a rising star in GOP politics, admitted in January that he had an affair with his St. Louis hairdresser.

They were still working on the first group at the end of the day. By lunchtime Thursday, just three jurors had made it through to the second round.

Ten prospective jurors have been retained for further questioning next week. Six of the first 40 potential jurors were released because of hardships. Scott Rosenblum, a member of Greitens' defense team, was also looking to see if they were aware of Greitens' other felony charge for using a fundraising list from a charity without its permission. Jury selection was originally slated to take place Thursday and Friday, but it could stretch into Monday, the day the trial was scheduled to begin. "I think what the judge has to look for is people who have a causal knowledge of the case".

Jury selection was taking longer than anticipated. The final jury is supposed to be seated by Monday. Her testimony is crucial because prosecutors confirmed Monday that they still have not obtained the photo she says Greitens took. They also don't have any proof that Greitens sent the photo to the iCloud.

Prosecutors say Greitens violated state law that prohibits taking an unauthorized photo of someone in a full or partial state of nudity. The judge says the jury doesn't need the explanation from an expert on how it works.

"They're arguing that your iPhone is a computer, I'm not sure there's any dispute about that", Ammann said.

"Before he would take the stand, you've already formed an opinion on him", Rosenblum said. If Greitens were impeached, the Senate would appoint a panel of judges to preside over a trial on whether to remove him from office.

"It goes back to the credibility of the witness", Banks said.

Jury selection is expected to start Thursday morning and last at least two days. The woman told the committee that Greitens had restrained, slapped, shoved, threatened and belittled her during a series of sexual encounters in 2015 that at times left her crying and afraid. Since January, it's been revealed that the ex-husband's attorney received $120,000 from an unknown source before a KMOV story aired following Greitens' State of the State address.

Greitens is accused of taking a photo of partially nude woman without her consent during a sexual encounter in 2015. Greitens has strongly denied those accusations.
