Rooney agrees 'deal in principle' to join MLS side DC United”

Reports in England suggest that Manchester United's all-time leading goalscorer Wayne Rooney could be the latest star join up with the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and David Villa in Major League Soccer.

He also won five Premier League titles and the Champions League.

Although Rooney is Everton's top goalscorer this season with 11 strikes in all competitions, the former Manchester United striker has not found the net since December, spending time on the bench and being forced to deny a rift with manager Sam Allardyce.

Rooney re-joined Everton in July 2017. Allardyce believes he will be in charge next season despite widespread discontent among supporters, while Goal revealed last week that Everton were still exploring alternative options, with former Hull and Watford boss Marco Silva still very much on their agenda.

Earlier this week, Allardyce said he wanted England's and Manchester United's record goalscorer to see out the final year of his contract next season and added: 'There have been rumours about Wayne going overseas, China or America.

Rooney is expected to leave in a £12.5million deal though the United States transfer window does not open until July.

"Now he goes to MLS and there have been some iconic players in that league". Moshiri, Goal understands, has expressed doubts as to Rooney's physical capabilities on more than one occasion this season.

It did not turn into the fairytale he and Everton wanted when he was paraded in front of hundreds of flashbulbs in July - but it should not be painted as a failure either.

He was a mainstay for Manchester United for 13 years, but last year he joined Everton.

A spectacular headed victor on the opening day at home to Stoke City, his first Merseyside derby goal in a 1-1 draw at Liverpool and a hat-trick in Everton's 4-0 win against West Ham United, capped with a spectacular strike from his own half, watched by Sam Allardyce as he prepared to succeed Koeman.

Allardyce and Rooney have had their differences and the player's show of dissent when substituted in April's Merseyside derby resulted in clear-the-air talks between the pair.
