Former Sen. Harry Reid Undergoes Surgery for Pancreatic Cancer”

The I-Team has learned that former Nevada Senator and Majority Leader Harry Reid underwent cancer surgery this morning.

Reid, 78, was "in good spirits", the family said.

Reid underwent surgery at the Johns Hopkins Hospital cancer center in Maryland after a routine screening detected the tumor, according to a family statement released by Reid's former deputy chief of staff, Adam Jentleson.

"His surgeons are confident that the surgery was a success and that the prognosis for his recovery is good", the statement said.

Former U.S. Senator Harry Reid speaks during the National Clean Energy Summit 9.0 on October 13, 2017 in Las Vegas.

Mr. Reid was first elected to the Senate in 1986 and became the Democratic leader in 2005.

Sen. Chuck Schumer, a New York Democrat who succeeded Reid as minority leader, tweeted shortly after the news broke.

Reid and Boehner are working on creating a public policy think tank at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, focusing on policy issues that affect the tourism, hospitality and gambling industries.

"Harry Reid is a fighter", former Reid staffer Zac Petkanas told TPM. Arizona Sen. John McCain, who is suffering from brain cancer, tweeted, "From one cantankerous senator to another, sending my prayers & best wishes to @SenatorReid as he recovers from a successful surgery".
