Chelsea in shock move for Pochettino as Conte replacement

Chelsea in shock move for Pochettino as Conte replacement”

Roman Abramovich wants Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino to replace Antonio Conte as Chelsea manager, according to reports.

Conte is expected to leave Stamford Bridge following Saturday's FA Cup final against Manchester United, having seen his side miss out on Champions League qualification with a fifth-placed finish in the Premier League this season.

Under Pochettino, Spurs have qualified for the Champions League for three seasons in a row while operating on a smaller budget than rivals such as Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal. With the new stadium being built, Spurs don't have an abundance of money to spend, so they need a manager like the Argentine who is great at working with young players and aiding their development.

It's a make or break week for Tottenham and Mauricio Pochettino, with the Argentine manager set to hold what the Daily Mail describes as "crunch talks" with chairman Daniel Levy about his future.

'I have a contract and the club know very well the situation.

"I think he has half an incline of that, I wouldn't be surprised if he's heard something and that's why he's throwing all this stuff out - I need that and this". But you know me and sometimes I have some insane ideas. In this type of situation, with a club with our unbelievable fans, being courageous is the most important, and to take risks.

Despite finishing third in the Premier League and qualifying automatically for next season's Champions League, Tottenham once again failed to get their hands on a trophy, and the disappointing way in which they succumbed to Juventus in the last 16 of the Champions League points to a squad that needs reinforcing between now and August.
