Cliff Bleszinski talks about Boss Key ideas

Cliff Bleszinski talks about Boss Key ideas”

Earlier this week it was confirmed by Boss Key Productions co-founder Cliff Bleszinski that the studio would be closing immediately.

After formally announcing the closure of the studio that he helped to co-found, Bleszinski was candid in sharing several game ideas and concepts that were worked on and pitched to publishers, or ideas that were still at their very beginning internally within the studio and just starting to get fleshed out creatively.

The first one is called DragonFlies, an action game where you're able to hatch, train, and ride dragons. A spiritual successor to Toobin for VR, Donuts was an arcade-style racing that would have had you playing as animals. Drinking ginger beer would add health, throwing beverage cans like in Mario Kart would cause effects and shaking cans up would cause AOE attacks.

Bleszinski goes on to claim that he wanted the game to "do for dragon riding what Halo did for vehicles". The developer of LawBreakers and Radical Heights "is no more", and he's taking a break from the video games industry. It aimed to offer a PvE experience set in a "feudalpunk" world on floating islands.

We don't know the reasons why this stuff was refused by publishers but let me say that's disappointing to see that's happened, and especially considering the to keep Boss Key Productions in the business Bleszinski had to try and launch a scrappy Fortnite clone. This one looks promising, unfortunately, we won't see that one too. Teams would duke it out in DOGs (Destructive Ordinance on the Ground) over 5v5v5v5v5 multiplayer matches. What's more, he said at least some of these games would have had a budget of around $40 million, which he said is "not cheap". You pitch something and the response is often "too similar to something we have or out there so no" or "this is too unique so we can't do a proper financial model for it".
