Kami Rita Sherpa scales Mount Everest for record 22nd time

Kami Rita Sherpa scales Mount Everest for record 22nd time”

According to Sherpa, she wants to climb Mt Everest for at least 10 times.

A Nepali mountaineer climbed Mount Everest Wednesday for a 22nd time while a female climber made it to the top for the ninth time, each setting a new record on the world's highest mountain, officials said.

With the ascent of 8,848-meter high Qomolangma, 48-year-old Sherpa has set a new record by climbing the world's highest peak for maximum times.

His record of 21 summits was shared by Nepali climbers Apa Sherpa and Phurba Tashi Sherpa, both of whom have already announced retirement.

A boom in climbers has made mountaineering a lucrative business since Sir Edmund Hillary and sherpa Tenzing Norgay made the first ascent in 1953.

Iswari Paudel of Himalayan Guides Nepal, the company assigned to fix the ropes, confirmed that the team has scaled the mountain. His brother has scaled Everest 17 times.

Mountaineering has been his family tradition.

Kami Rita first scaled Everest at age 24, and has made the trip nearly every year since then.

He completed the seven climbs in 177 days - nine days quicker than the previous record - after reaching the top of Everest on Monday (May 14). In the autumn, he guides clients to smaller peaks in Nepal.

Before leaving for Lukla, the gateway to Mt. Everest, late last month, the father-of-two told reporters in Kathmandu that he had no plans to stop climbing the mountain.

The route to the summit was opened up by a team of Sherpas earlier this week.

Apart from Kami, dozens climbed the mountain Wednesday, Shrestha said from the Base Camp.

Ethnic Sherpas, renowned for their endurance and experience at high altitudes, serve as guides for many foreign mountaineers attempting to climb the highest Himalayan peaks.
