Revamped, AI-powered Google News app goes live on Android, iOS”

While the new app launched on Android a few days ago, it was added to the App Store for iOS on 15 May and is available in 127 countries around the world.

Google News relies heavily on the data it already has about you, paired with artificial intelligence. The refreshed app, that replaces the old Google Play Newsstand app, is now divided into four sections. The updated app brings an all-new UI that's supposed to give you a faster, smarter briefing on the top news stories going on right now. It works as you'd imagine, letting you mark out preferred topics, news sources and locations to filter your reads.

"Headlines" is more of an in-depth look at the latest news, covering all the usual topics from technology and politics to entertainment and science reporting. This, in turn, will show you the top content from the criteria you select. Google said last week that it plans to offer over 1,0000 magazine titles you can follow by tapping a star icon or subscribing to. The personalized section "For You" becomes better over time as the app learns what preferences individual users have when it comes to viewing news content. Google News gives you everything online about a story and organizes it for you - highlighting different perspectives, a timeline of key events, FAQs, important people, and more.

Google at the I/O event has specified that with this Google News app, a user can find quality content from a diverse set of credible publishers and can discover new genuine sources. News agencies/organisations in this section all support the Google AMP standard, which means the pages will load in quick and clean fashion without bouncing you first through a mobile browser. Will it replace Apple News for you? "At its core, this technology lets us synthesise information and put it together in a way that helps you make sense of what's happening, and what the impact or reaction has been".
