Alexander Downer interviewed by FBI over Russian meddling

Alexander Downer interviewed by FBI over Russian meddling”

On his radio show Wednesday night, LevinTV host Mark Levin discussed new revelations about a "secret cabal" of Federal Bureau of Investigation agents that began surveillance of President Trump and his campaign over three months before the November 2016 election.

According to a previous Times article, it was Mr Downer who held his booze better - extracting an admission from Mr Papadopoulos that Russian Federation was shopping dirt on Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton to her political rivals.

The New York Times said top Australian officials broke diplomatic protocol to allow the agents to question the country's then-high commissioner to the United Kingdom past year, with the results - summarised and sent to Washington on August 2 - laying the foundations for what was then known by its code name, Crossfire Hurricane, and is now special counsel Robert Mueller's probe.

It was a breach of diplomatic protocol - which came after "tense deliberations" between Washington and Canberra - that helped to lay the foundations for the special counsel investigation into allegations of collusion between Donald Trump's campaign and Russian Federation, according to the New York Times.

The New York Times first revealed late previous year it was at a boozy night in May 2016, at London's Kensington Wine Rooms, that Trump's then foreign policy adviser George Papadopoulos told Downer Russia had dirt on Mr Trump's political rival Hillary Clinton. The investigation is now run by Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller III and is no longer known by that code name, and although it hasn't impacted Trump directly, it has brought charges against former Trump campaign officials and more than a dozen Russians.

Mr Trump has repeatedly slammed the probe as a witch hunt.

He has pleaded guilty to lying to officials, who he is now cooperating with.

He is co-operating with Mr Mueller's investigation. For those reading, well acquainted with the Stones" back-catalogue, would've picked up on the fact that "Crossfire Hurricane" is indeed a reference to the 1969 classic "Jumpin' Jack Flash'.

Crossfire Hurricane began in August 2016, exactly 100 days before the November 8, 2016 presidential election won by Mr Trump and a month after the real estate mogul became the official Republican nominee.
