He also commended them for succeeding in reaching their demands, "You received a majority of your demands, making a significant impact on those who came after you".

Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman spoke to graduates of his alma mater, Howard University, this weekend at the university's commencement, and said they should always be fueled by a sense of objective, and face life's challenges without fear. Students then protested and campaigned for affordable tuition and campus housing.

Other prominent Howard University students and alums include Toni Morrison, Thurgood Marshall, Zora Neale Hurston, and Roberta Flack.

In addition to telling students that he too fought for problems during his tenure at Howard, which he called a "magical place", he said: "You love the university enough to struggle with it".

The star, who graduated from the Washington DC University in 2002, added that he was in the show for a total of three days before he was 'let go.' What he thought was going to be an improvement in the character became the act that got him fired.

Boseman did not specify what soap opera he was talking about. "We'll be watching you", the executive said. However, his first professional credited TV role, according to IMDB, was on "All My Children", in which he briefly played young gang member Reggie Porter Montgomery. Jordan referred to the part in a 2015 GQ interview as a "f**king stereotypical black role".

"Black Panther" has earned more than $1.3 billion worldwide. "Howard had instilled in me a certain amount of pride, and, for my taste, this role didn't live up to those standards". Boseman asked in his address Saturday. "Sometimes you need to get knocked down before you can really figure out what your fight is", he said.

The Washington Post reports more than 2,000 students will receive degrees from Howard, referred to as "the Mecca" of black education in the USA, in 2018.

"Purpose is an essential element of you", he said. "It is the reason you are on the planet at this particular time in history. Whatever you choose for a career path, remember the struggles along the way are only meant to shape you for your goal". "Howard's legacy is not wrapped up in the money you will make, but the challenges you choose to confront".
